Feminine, dainty, bold, overpowering, and in the spotlight for 2024 weddings—bows. This classic and versatile element is practically overtaking the wedding world in all categories. It has become a focal point in weddings, weaving its way into every aspect of the celebration. From bridal attire to decor, and even sweet treats, big and little bows are adorning weddings with a touch of elegance and whimsy.

So how can you incorporate bows into your wedding day? Well let’s just say we have LOTS of inspiration at our fingertips for you.

Working Bows Into Your Attire

The influence of bows on wedding attire is sweeping through the bridal fashion scene, creating stunning and memorable looks for brides, couples, grooms their entourages. Although we are seeing this come into play for bridal wear primarily, I have some ideas for all genders and couples that we can dive into.

Bows in Your Wedding/Bridal Dresses

Wedding dresses are taking center stage with big (and little) bow details.

We’re seeing them everywhere they can be on a dress: waist to shoulders to spine.

Adorning the waist, we are seeing little small square bow details to huge, romantic, flowing bows. And these wrap all along the waist from front to back. What’s great about using this detail, is you can either choose accentuate your natural waist line, or follow the trend of drop waist dresses and use it to create or highlight that silhouette.

But bows are also finding ways around all parts of the dress. We are seeing bows to fall along the trend of statement shoulders, and even making bold statements on necklines.

And for a touch of elegant romance, some brides are opting for little bows that delicately line the spine, cascading down the bottom of the dress. Bows can create lines and again, be used to accentuate lines, silhouettes, and details.

Bows In Other Bridal Accessories: Veils, Capes, and Shoes

Veils are not left untouched by the bow trend, with intricate designs featuring numerous bow details. Some brides are choosing veils that transform into one big bow at the crown of the head, adding a dramatic and romantic flair to their ensemble.

Wedding capes are also embracing the bow trend, with sleeves or the cape itself adorned with these charming details. Gloves, once a subtle accessory, are now making a statement with bow details along the seams, adding a touch of femininity and personality.

Footwear is getting a bow makeover too, with brides opting for shoes that feature big bows on the back or even the front of the heel. This unexpected touch adds a playful and stylish element to the bride’s overall look.

Here we see an elegant bow on a lapel suit. The suit is peach and the lapel is black and the individual is wearing a black bowtie with a white shirt.
Here we see an elegant bow on a lapel suit. However, I can also see the coat pocket with a tiny, ribbon bow on the front as a small detail with a big impact.

Bows for Suits

I have not yet seen this, but anticipate to see this transfer over to suits for both men and women as well in the wedding world. I can see dainty bows coming in and challenging what is feminine and what is masculine, used to line along the cuffs of the suit or incorporated into the details of the suit pockets. This can be flattering and unique without taking over the suit.

Wedding Decor Is Making Bows the Focal Point

Bows are not limited to clothing; they’re making a grand entrance into wedding decor. Taking a maximalist approach, columns of tightly stacked bows made of ribbon are trending, creating show-stopping focal points that add opulence to the whatever wedding decor they are on.

Candles are getting a bow-centric makeover, with both big and little bows adorning these romantic elements. Stacks of ribbon bows at the base of candles add a touch of elegance, creating a harmonious blend of light and texture.

Florals, too, are becoming a canvas for the bow trend. Couples are incorporating bows within floral arrangements, from dainty small ribbon bows on single stems to single large ribbon bows on larger flowers. The result is a visually stunning and cohesive floral design that complements the overall theme.

I have to share a few of my favorites I have seen so far:

Ribbons are finding artistic expression as backdrops, intertwined with draped material, and even making their way onto dinnerware and plates. Classic bows on chairs add a touch of nostalgia, bringing a sense of timeless elegance to the wedding reception.

Wedding Cakes Are Tastefully Tied Up in this Bow Trend

The sweetest part of the celebration is not exempt from the bow extravaganza. Wedding cakes are adorned with big fondant bows, becoming a delicious masterpiece and a visual feast.

For those who prefer subtlety, small bow details delicately placed on cakes add a touch of sweetness (and texture) without overwhelming the design. Sometimes these bows too are ribbons just added on top of unique textured cakes–and we still love that!
